Mexico Ships Off Two Humanitarian Ships to Cuba

(MENAFN) The Mexican government has dispatched two additional humanitarian aid vessels to Cuba, carrying more than 1,000 tons of essential supplies, as part of ongoing relief efforts amid the island’s worsening economic crisis.

The logistics ships Papaloapan and Huasteco left the port of Veracruz loaded with 1,193 tons of provisions, including staples such as beans and powdered milk. The shipment also incorporated 23 tons of humanitarian donations gathered by civil society organizations with support from the Mexico City government, representing an initial delivery from local initiatives.

The maritime operation, expected to take approximately four days, involved more than 350 naval personnel, along with cranes and five forklifts to manage the cargo. This latest delivery supplements 814 tons of aid previously sent under the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum.

Cuba is experiencing its deepest economic crisis in decades, intensified by US measures to block oil shipments, including deliveries from ally Venezuela. The restrictions have sharply increased food and transportation costs, caused severe fuel shortages, and led to prolonged nationwide power outages.

Mexico’s continued humanitarian support aims to alleviate some of the pressure on Cuban civilians during this period of heightened economic and energy challenges.
